Work on 800-1200 until a continuous burr forms.

Refine on 3000-6000 with less pressure.

Deburr + test

Alternating strokes, leather strop, paper and tomato test.

Quick troubleshooting

Only middle is sharp

Cause: Tip/heel worked too briefly.
Fix: Sharpen the blade in three zones.

Goes dull quickly

Cause: Burr not cleanly removed.
Fix: Fine alternating strokes + strop.

Scratches on the flank

Cause: Angle tilts during the stroke.
Fix: Reduce pressure, guide more slowly.

Whetstone or oil stone?+
For beginners, a whetstone is usually easier and faster to learn.
